James will show you the ropes on how to double your income by going from a salaried permanent employee to an independent consultant. James will discuss: Differences between perm, consulting, contracting; Understanding how placement/consulting companies work; Salary vs W2 vs 1099; Using social media (blogging, twitter, LinkedIn) and job boards; Certifications; Most in-demand skills; Developing the needed technical and communication skills; Interviewing and resume tips; How to negotiate; Networking yourself; and the additional risks and higher expectations that go with being a consultant.
Always looking up to your posts. I have been working with sql server since 1999. I love it, the more challange the better. Next month I’ll be training at sqlskills, excited about it. I live in Miami, seems not as techie here for consulting. My better half opened a montessori school here, cannot move from north miami.
I work lots of hours to get things done with no pay because i like it. Salary is good one twenty five plus ten perc bonus. Working with sql ent, partioning, cdc, service broker, clr etc. 3tb plus page compressed, over 8 tb no compressed tables with 3000+ partitions.
Anyway i wish i had more harder work and more variety of work, money at least the same to current since i support wifes business till she breaks even. I have extensive code library on my new site http://www.sqlboost.com under blog menu databases menu, to get things done.(scripting objects, generating data comparison sqls, metadata schema that i can create in every database to better represent system objects, database object an rable comparison in few seconds etc, probably needs explanation at first).
I believe one dba architect is just enough (always have a good backup on anything)
What do you suggest, how do i get into a more independent demanding life full of sql server?
