Microsoft Certified Master program killed
The Certified Master and Architect community was collectively notified Friday, August 30, at 10PM PST that the Certified Master (MCM/MCSM) and Certified Architect (MCA) programs are dead. The email transcript has been reported by Neil Johnson. For those of you who are already in the process of earning the certification, you have until October 1, 2013 to complete your certification. No new members will be allowed into the Certified Master/Architect community after retirement. Those who hold one of these certs will continue to hold the credential and will not be required to recertify the credential in the future.

Yeah, this is a real bummer. Thankfully, I was able to complete everything before the cutoff. But it makes me question the amount of time and money I dedicated to this process. I’ve found that very few people outside of other DBAs know what the MCM is. So far, I haven’t found any HR / recruiters who do. Now that the plug has been pulled, I doubt that will change.
As for the October 1 deadline, they have actually extended the exams until December 31st as a result of all the feedback. Depending on your situation, that may or may not be enough time to make a difference.
